I will lift up mine eyes unto the mountains: from whence shall my help come? My help cometh from the LORD, which made heaven and earth. He will not suffer thy foot to be moved: he that keepeth thee will not slumber. Behold, he that keepeth Israel shall neither slumber nor sleep. The LORD is thy keeper: the LORD is thy shade upon thy right hand. The sun shall not smite thee by day, nor the moon by night. The LORD shall keep thee from all evil; he shall keep thy soul. The LORD shall keep thy going out and thy coming in, from this time forth and for evermore.
Yea, this. This Psalm is one of my favorites. My help does come from God.
Without Him, I am nothing. I was nothing. I was utterly lost, broken, hopeless, frightened, bitter, angry, dejected, worthless, nothing. But that’s not how the God who created the heavens and the earth saw me. After all He’s the same God who created me as well. He saw a work in progress, someone perfectly imperfect, a lost sheep in need of a shepherd, His child whom He loves. And because He loves me, He can and will keep me. Nothing will snatch me from His hand now that I am His. Nothing. Not powers or principalities, not even death.
Think about that. Because we believe, truly believe, He is able to keep us. That’s hope and power right there. That’s love. Pure and true. That’s God, the Lord, my Savior. I rest on His shoulders.
