I told you last night about the incredible bringing of the word we were treated to last night at church, God was in that little ole country church for sure. There wasn’t but about 12 of us there but let me tell you God was with us, he spoke to us through that guest preacher and it was a message a want to share with you. Now I’m not a preacher, I just try to be a teacher, and a friend for any who may have questions, need spiritual support and guidance, or who just want to praise the Lord for all he is doing in their life. That’s really what it’s all about, praising Him! Well, let me tell ya that little church was a filled with praises to our King, our Lord, our Savior last night. My prayer is I can reflect some of the same spirit tonight in my words.
The text was Revelation 21: 1- 8 a much loved passage of mine written by John around 90AD. I love all of scripture, I spend hours each day studying it, pouring over it to better understand God, to know His heart, to draw nearer to His Son, to let Him ever abide in my heart. Of all the wonderful books of the Bible, I do have my favorites, pretty much all the books of prophecy that includes many Psalms, Daniel, and all 4 Gospels as well the major and minor prophets. But of all the prophecies contained in the Bible, and there are many, Revelation is I think the most captivating. It is the culmination of the greatest love story ever told – Jesus and his bride, the Church, God and his people. It’s a story some 6,000 years in the making and it has the most beautiful ending imaginable. And that ending starts with chapter 21.
And I saw a new heaven and a new earth: for the first heaven and the first earth were passed away; and there was no more sea. Revelation 21:1
Think of it, a new heaven and earth for this old earth with it’s battle scars from man’s sin and wars and rebellion will pass away, gone, a brand new glorious start for eternity with the Lord. Now I know that Jesus sorta gives this old world a makeover of sorts at the start of the millennial kingdom but that won’t hold a candle to what He has ins tore for us in eternity. I can hardly wait! Just read what scripture has to say about it.
For, behold, I create new heavens and a new earth: and the former shall not be remembered, nor come into mind. Isaiah 65:17
Nevertheless we, according to his promise, look for new heavens and a new earth, wherein dwelleth righteousness. 2 Peter 3:13
And I saw a great white throne, and him that sat on it, from whose face the earth and the heaven fled away; and there was found no place for them. Revelation 20:11
This old world isn’t just gonna pass away, it’s gonna flee. When God comes down on the great white throne to judge those who were not believers in Christ, not washed in the blood, sealed, secured and redeemed by the precious Lamb, this old heaven and earth can’t be in the presence of such holy purity and it flees. Skeedadles right on out of God’s presence and you what there was no place found for it, it is gone! Gone like yesterday.
And I John saw the holy city, new Jerusalem, coming down from God out of heaven, prepared as a bride adorned for her husband. Revelation 21:2
But Jerusalem which is above is free, which is the mother of us all. Galatians 4:26
For he looked for a city which hath foundations, whose builder and maker is God. Hebrews 11:10
For thy Maker is thine husband; the LORD of hosts is his name; and thy Redeemer the Holy One of Israel; The God of the whole earth shall he be called. Isaiah 54:5
What a sight this new city, this new Jerusalem will be coming down from God, prepared as bride for her groom. It’s a city with foundations laid by God himself, He is the almighty builder, the maker of our future heavenly home, our home in glory. A free home, where we truly belong. We don’t belong here in this old world filled with sin, temptations, trials, tribulations, war, disease, hate. That’s not who we are anymore, we are like the new Jerusalem, we are new creatures, washed clean by the blood of Christ, we truly are brides adorned for our groom, our Lord, our Savior.
And I heard a great voice out of heaven saying, Behold, the tabernacle of God is with men, and he will dwell with them, and they shall be his people, and God himself shall be with them, and be their God. Revelation 21:3
And I will set my tabernacle among you: and my soul shall not abhor you. Leviticus 26:11
And he said unto me, Son of man, the place of my throne, and the place of the soles of my feet, where I will dwell in the midst of the children of Israel for ever, and my holy name, shall the house of Israel no more defile, neither they, nor their kings, by their whoredom, nor by the carcases of their kings in their high places. Ezekiel 43:7
And what agreement hath the temple of God with idols? for ye are the temple of the living God; as God hath said, I will dwell in them, and walk in them; and I will be their God, and they shall be my people. 2 Corinthians 6:16
Did you get that, we are the temple of the living God, us! He is going to dwell with us, in us, he will be our God, holy and true, and we will be his people!
And God shall wipe away all tears from their eyes; and there shall be no more death, neither sorrow, nor crying, neither shall there be any more pain: for the former things are passed away. Revelation 21:4
He will swallow up death in victory; and the Lord GOD will wipe away tears from off all faces; and the rebuke of his people shall he take away from off all the earth: for the LORD hath spoken it. Isaiah 25:8
The last enemy that shall be destroyed is death. 1 Corinthians 15:26
And death and hell were cast into the lake of fire. This is the second death. Revelation 20:14
And the ransomed of the LORD shall return, and come to Zion with songs and everlasting joy upon their heads: they shall obtain joy and gladness, and sorrow and sighing shall flee away. Isaiah 35:10
And I will rejoice in Jerusalem, and joy in my people: and the voice of weeping shall be no more heard in her, nor the voice of crying. Isaiah 65:19
Praise the Lord! Have any more joyful, more happy, love filled verses been written than that the Lord God himself will dry our weary weeping, tear filled eyes. Eyes that have seen so much pain and suffering here in our temporary home, eyes that have poured out overflowing with longing for our true home, our eternal home where we will dwell forever with our Creator, with our Savior, with our God. Where we will never weep bitter, burning tears again for there will be no more sorrow, no pain. Praise Jesus, that does sound so good. There is so much pain in this world – I weep over it, pray for it, so many lost, denying their Lord, their Savior, rejecting Him and the true peace – only real peace- He is longing to give them. So much death, sickness, wickedness. Not for long though, one day our God is gonna cast death and hell into that lake of eternal fire and they are gonna be gone! They won’t trouble us no more, never again will they darken our eyes, dim our joy. Instead we will rest forever in the light and love of God!
And he that sat upon the throne said, Behold, I make all things new. And he said unto me, Write: for these words are true and faithful. Revelation 21:5
Behold, I will do a new thing; now it shall spring forth; shall ye not know it? I will even make a way in the wilderness, and rivers in the desert. Isaiah 43:19
Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new. 2 Corinthians 5:17
And he said unto me, It is done. I am Alpha and Omega, the beginning and the end. I will give unto him that is athirst of the fountain of the water of life freely. Revelation 21:6
And the seventh angel poured out his vial into the air; and there came a great voice out of the temple of heaven, from the throne, saying, It is done. Revelation 16:17
I am Alpha and Omega, the beginning and the ending, saith the Lord, which is, and which was, and which is to come, the Almighty. Revelation 1:8
Therefore with joy shall ye draw water out of the wells of salvation. Isaiah 12:3
Jesus answered and said unto her, If thou knewest the gift of God, and who it is that saith to thee, Give me to drink; thou wouldest have asked of him, and he would have given thee living water. John 4:10
In the last day, that great day of the feast, Jesus stood and cried, saying, If any man thirst, let him come unto me, and drink. John 7:37
There won’t be any seas on this new earth because we won’t need them. Nope, we get to drink the living water straight from the throne of God when we are thirsty there. Pure, clean, sparkling, refreshing, water of life. And cold too, I bet it’s perfectly cold. I have this thing about water, I love it, drink it constantly as long as it’s icy cold, but let me tell you what if we run out of ice that water just don’t taste the same, it tastes stale, lifeless, bleh. The ice changes the taste somehow. But I won’t want ice there, cause that water is gonna taste so good, so sweet, it’s gonna taste ice cold.
He that overcometh shall inherit all things; and I will be his God, and he shall be my son. Revelation 21:7
And I will bring them, and they shall dwell in the midst of Jerusalem: and they shall be my people, and I will be their God, in truth and in righteousness. Zechariah 8:8
I used to read this passage and think he that overcometh? overcometh what? The judgements, the tribulation? Yea it means all those things and trust me it’s gonna be a miracle any might overcome the things that will come upon this earth in the last days. I pray for all who wait to long to accept Jesus as their Lord and Savior and allow Him into their heart to change them and make them new. Cause one day He is coming back for His church, His people, His bride and we’re gonna be out of here. Gone in an instant, a twinkling of the eye. Whether we go through the rapture or the grave those who believe and put their faith in Jesus are going to be winners either way.
Behold, I shew you a mystery; We shall not all sleep, but we shall all be changed, In a moment, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trump: for the trumpet shall sound, and the dead shall be raised incorruptible, and we shall be changed.
1 Corinthians 15:51-52
For the Lord himself shall descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of the archangel, and with the trump of God: and the dead in Christ shall rise first: Then we which are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds, to meet the Lord in the air: and so shall we ever be with the Lord.
1 Thessalonians 4:16-17
The believers, followers of Christ, those who are His redeemed are going to be gone and the Holy Spirit with us. I pray that all of you will be in the clouds with me on that glorious, most wonderful day, when I meet my Lord, my Savior and I can praise Him, thank Him, worship at His feet. Cause the picture is terrifyingly bleak for those not called up yonder, whose names are not written in the Lambs book of life when God says to Him to get down here and get His people out. Those left here, those who for whatever reason weren’t washed in the blood, they are going to face hell on earth, literally. And believe me there will be a lot left here, don’t believe me read the rest of the book of Revelation starting with chapter 5. It tears my heart just thinking that so many will face the most horrific times this earth will ever know. Times so bad that Jesus himself said that but they were cut short no flesh would survive! Please read these last few passages and make sure that you are not numbered among the multitude of transgressors. Jesus spells it out who will be left here on the earth when He comes to claim His own. If you are already saved then just guard your heart and soul that that old slew foot devil don’t trick you into backsliding and cursing the name of the one who saved you. And if you or someone you know isn’t among the number of the blessed then please remedy that situation today, right now this second. You never know what might happen, at some point waiting one more second is going to be waiting too late.
But the fearful, and unbelieving, and the abominable, and murderers, and whoremongers, and sorcerers, and idolaters, and all liars, shall have their part in the lake which burneth with fire and brimstone: which is the second death. Revelation 21:8
Know ye not that the unrighteous shall not inherit the kingdom of God? Be not deceived: neither fornicators, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor effeminate, nor abusers of themselves with mankind, 1 Corinthians 6:9
Now the works of the flesh are manifest, which are these; Adultery, fornication, uncleanness, lasciviousness, Idolatry, witchcraft, hatred, variance, emulations, wrath, strife, seditions, heresies, Envyings, murders, drunkenness, revellings, and such like: of the which I tell you before, as I have also told you in time past, that they which do such things shall not inherit the kingdom of God. Galatians 5:19-21
For this ye know, that no whoremonger, nor unclean person, nor covetous man, who is an idolater, hath any inheritance in the kingdom of Christ and of God. Ephesians 5:5
Knowing this, that the law is not made for a righteous man, but for the lawless and disobedient, for the ungodly and for sinners, for unholy and profane, for murderers of fathers and murderers of mothers, for manslayers, 1 Timothy 1:9
For whoremongers, for them that defile themselves with mankind, for menstealers, for liars, for perjured persons, and if there be any other thing that is contrary to sound doctrine; 1 Timothy 1:10
And whosoever was not found written in the book of life was cast into the lake of fire. Revelation 20:15
The descriptions above fit us all in some way at one time or another for none of us are perfect, we have all sinned and fallen short of the glory of God. But that sin doesn’t have to define us, it’s not who we are, at least it doesn’t have to be. Right now pray and admit to God that you know you are a sinner, that you repent of your sins, are sorry for them, that you know that He sent Jesus his son here to die for you so that you could be made new, restored to rightness with God through Jesus blood, thank Him for saving you and then rejoice in your new found, eternal hope. Eternal Joy. Peace. Your Victory!
