Prating Fools

psalm-104

The wicked, through the pride of his countenance, will not seek after God: God is not in all his thoughts.  Psalms 10:4

The fool hath said in his heart, There is no God. They are corrupt, they have done abominable works, there is none that doeth good.  Psalms 14:1

My Psalm to study today was Psalm 10 and the 4th verse jumped out at me, as did the referenced verse from Psalms.  We have been watching the seemingly downward spiral of a certain segment of society in the last few weeks, as my son likes to say they act worse than bratty toddlers.  Because they did not get what they wanted they are throwing a massive, collective, violent temper tantrum.  They’re not accomplishing anything really, just getting attention by making fools of themselves.  I could remind them that God raises up leaders and he removes them as we are told at least 3 times in the Book of Daniel:

And he changeth the times and the seasons: he removeth kings, and setteth up kings: he giveth wisdom unto the wise, and knowledge to them that know understanding:  Daniel 2:21

That they shall drive thee from men, and thy dwelling shall be with the beasts of the field, and they shall make thee to eat grass as oxen, and they shall wet thee with the dew of heaven, and seven times shall pass over thee, till thou know that the most High ruleth in the kingdom of men, and giveth it to whomsoever he will.  Daniel 4:25

And they shall drive thee from men, and thy dwelling shall be with the beasts of the field: they shall make thee to eat grass as oxen, and seven times shall pass over thee, until thou know that the most High ruleth in the kingdom of men, and giveth it to whomsoever he will.  Daniel 4:32

But they would tell me I am hate filled, ignorant, a bigot – or something similar.

I certainly wasn’t a fan of the our former president but I know that God is in control and that he had a reason for that season of our nation’s history, I just didn’t understand what it was.  So I prayed for the hope and change that might come once he was out of office.  I think it has come too, we have leaders now who openly pray to God, talk about God, and appear to be Christ followers.  Now we can’t know there hearts, only God can, but I can say that I have heard God praised more in the last 3 or so weeks than in the last 8 years by our nations leaders.  That’s hope and that’s change.

Of course the ones wreaking havoc in a pointless, destructive, and often vile way, generally, don’t believe in God.  They don’t trust him, so they mock, ridicule, and persecute those who do.  They believe instead in themselves, they rely entirely upon their own understanding of the world and believe that if they want something, they should get it no matter the consequences or who is hurt in the process.  They claim to be so much more intelligent for their beliefs in things like logic, science, and philosophy yet they strip naked and dance in the streets, they destroy the very businesses they patronized earlier in the day, scream lewd and perverse obscenities at the tops of their lungs for all to hear, threaten violence and physical harm upon all who do not share their thoughts and opinions.  That’s not intelligence, there is no wisdom in those actions, certainly no love for their fellow man, their neighbors.  Bearing this in mind, let us consider the truth found in the following verses from Psalm 10.

For the wicked boasteth of his heart’s desire, and blesseth the covetous, whom the LORD abhorreth.  Psalms 10:3

Everything God is for the wicked in society are against.  Here are just a few examples. Abortion is murdering the most innocent and helpless of God’s children, it’s the fires of Molech all over again.  Sexual promiscuity spurns the gift that God gave to a husband and wife for their pleasure and to allow them to fulfill the command to be fruitful and multiply as does unnatural sexual perversions.  Idol worship runs rampant through the forms of celebrities (look at how the rich and famous are looked up to and emulated), devices (everyone these days is more concerned with the cyber world of Facebook, Twitter and such than the real world), we live in a world perpetually distracted by their “idols”.

The wicked, through the pride of his countenance, will not seek after God: God is not in all his thoughts.  Psalms 10:4

Instead they invent fantastic, somewhat impossible fables to explain everything.  They say God doesn’t exist, choosing instead to believe the biggest faith based lie ever, that everything in existence started from a big bang of nothing.

psalm-14-1

That’s not even possible!  You can’t get nothing from nothing, their has to be something or someone to make something.  You know God. I won’t get into this all today but soon I am going to put together a series of posts on defending our faith from a creationist worldview.  Even my 12 year old son understands that their theory is nothing more than blind faith, they can’t prove it; no one alive today was there and there are no eyewitness records. He tells folks he believes in the big bang, about 6 thousand years ago God spoke and bang! there was light.  I can’t argue with his logic there I mean we do live in a single spoken sentence called the universe, and Jesus, who was there, spoke about it during his ministry.  It certainly makes more sense than 6 billion (or whatever astronomical number they are claiming today) years ago there was a lot of nothing that somehow exploded into a whole lot of microscopic somethings that eventually collected together into bigger somethings.  That takes faith to buy that one.

His ways are always grievous; thy judgments are far above out of his sight: as for all his enemies, he puffeth at them.  Psalms 10:5

He hath said in his heart, I shall not be moved: for I shall never be in adversity.  Psalms 10:6

His mouth is full of cursing and deceit and fraud: under his tongue is mischief and vanity.  Psalms 10:7

The above three verses pretty much sum up the temper tantrums I referred to, wouldn’t you say.

He sitteth in the lurking places of the villages: in the secret places doth he murder the innocent: his eyes are privily set against the poor.  Psalms 10:8
He lieth in wait secretly as a lion in his den: he lieth in wait to catch the poor: he doth catch the poor, when he draweth him into his net.  Psalms 10:9
He croucheth, and humbleth himself, that the poor may fall by his strong ones.  Psalms 10:10

They use trickery, smoke and mirrors type approaches to persuade others their way is the  right way at first, but if that doesn’t work they resort to more overt, aggressive measures and eventually they will attempt to force their will on others.  This is what we are seeing today from a society that rejects God, rejects Truth, and rejects Christ.

He hath said in his heart, God hath forgotten: he hideth his face; he will never see it.  Psalms 10:11

Of course they usually deny their wickedness, to hear them tell it the followers of Jesus are the evil ones.  You know Jesus who is all about love – Love God the Father with all your heart and love thy neighbor as thy self.  Yet they can’t possibly love God with all their heart if they refuse to accept his commands.  You know the Big 10 as I call them, all those though shalt nots.  Of course they say that those rules are judgemental, hate filled because those rules destroy the concept they desperately cling to of “Do what thou wilt.”  They believe that what ever is right in their eyes is right for all, whether Truth says otherwise and whether it hurts or harms their neighbor doesn’t matter.  It’s right to them, therefore it’s right.  According to their logic if they believe or a majority of people in society believe that a certain person or group of people don’t deserve to live they can kill them.  It’s happened numerous times in the past, it’s called genocide and murder.  It’s what happens when society begins to reject the one true God!  It destroys societies, it causes empires to fall.

The wise in heart will receive commandments: but a prating fool shall fall.  Proverbs 10:8
