The Revelation pt. 5

Tonight we get  a break from the chaos, death and destruction of the first 6 seals before we move to the 7th, which brings on the 7 trumpet judgements; which are progressively worse the what we’ve already seen.  We will see that 7th seal opened tomorrow night, but right now let’s look at on of the parenthetical breaks as we examine the 144,000 sealed Jewish believers and the great multitude out of every nation, tribe, and tongue that they will lead to faith in Christ.  Pay attention to the 144,000 I believe they will be the converts of the 2 witnesses we will meet in chapter 11.

And after these things I saw four angels standing on the four corners of the earth, holding the four winds of the earth, that the wind should not blow on the earth, nor on the sea, nor on any tree. Revelation 7:1

Let me go ahead and say that the 4 corners in this verse are the 4 directions; north, south, east and west.  It does not mean the 4 corners of a square, the earth is a sphere not flat.  So these 4 angels are holding back the winds to allow the sealing of these Jewish believers.

And I saw another angel ascending from the east, having the seal of the living God: and he cried with a loud voice to the four angels, to whom it was given to hurt the earth and the sea, Revelation 7:2

These angels aren’t just holding back the winds, one day they will hurt the earth and sea.  But right now they wait till Jesus say’s now.  Then it’s on like donkey kong my friends.

Saying, Hurt not the earth, neither the sea, nor the trees, till we have sealed the servants of our God in their foreheads. Revelation 7:3

Note where this seal appears, the forehead, this is in contrast to the many who will choose to take the mark of the beast, also known as the Antichrist.

And I heard the number of them which were sealed: and there were sealed an hundred and forty and four thousand of all the tribes of the children of Israel. Revelation 7:4

These are Israelite’s, 12,000 from each of the 12 tribes.  That means they are not from any other nation than Israel.  I believe they are converts of the afore mentioned two witnesses who are in Jerusalem, which means the sealing in this parenthetical paragraph occurs over a period of time during the first 3 1/2 years  of  Daniel’s 70th week, also known as the time of Jacob’s trouble.
Of the tribe of Juda were sealed twelve thousand. Of the tribe of Reuben were sealed twelve thousand. Of the tribe of Gad were sealed twelve thousand. Of the tribe of Aser were sealed twelve thousand. Of the tribe of Nepthalim were sealed twelve thousand. Of the tribe of Manasses were sealed twelve thousand. Of the tribe of Simeon were sealed twelve thousand. Of the tribe of Levi were sealed twelve thousand. Of the tribe of Issachar were sealed tmiwelve thousand. Of the tribe of Zabulon were sealed twelve thousand. Of the tribe of Joseph were sealed twelve thousand. Of the tribe of Benjamin were sealed twelve thousand. Revelation 7:5-8

Notice this list of the tribes one is missing and one is added.  The tribe of Dan is replaced by the tribe of Joseph because the tribe of Dan was cursed by God after being the first to lead Israel into idolatry.

After this I beheld, and, lo, a great multitude, which no man could number, of all nations, and kindreds, and people, and tongues, stood before the throne, and before the Lamb, clothed with white robes, and palms in their hands; Revelation 7:9

John then saw a great multitude of saints from all the world standing in white robes holding palms before the Lamb; what an vision of the remnant of hope that carries through this horrific time period.

And cried with a loud voice, saying, Salvation to our God which sitteth upon the throne, and unto the Lamb. Revelation 7:10

These saints are crying out loudly, praising God and the Lamb.

And all the angels stood round about the throne, and about the elders and the four beasts, and fell before the throne on their faces, and worshipped God, Revelation 7:11

And the angels, beasts and elders join them in praising; that means the raptured church is also praising as well.  Look what we are proclaiming.

Saying, Amen: Blessing, and glory, and wisdom, and thanksgiving, and honour, and power, and might, be unto our God for ever and ever. Amen. Revelation 7:12

Amen, Amen!

And one of the elders answered, saying unto me, What are these which are arrayed in white robes? and whence came they? Revelation 7:13

I love this little conversation between John and one of the elders.  John’s response is a bit of humor in this break of the judgements.

And I said unto him, Sir, thou knowest. And he said to me, These are they which came out of great tribulation, and have washed their robes, and made them white in the blood of the Lamb. Revelation 7:14

“Sir, thou knowest.”  John’s like “Dude, what you asking me for, you know.”  John isn’t biting.  The elders answer though is a confirmation of the small hope is still there even during the worst time period in history; the tribulation saints. We have gone from the 144,000 Israelite sealed believers to a great multitude too large to number coming out if the time of Jacob’s trouble.  Which puts this conversation taking place during the end of the last 3 1/2 years referred to as the Great Tribulation.

Therefore are they before the throne of God, and serve him day and night in his temple: and he that sitteth on the throne shall dwell among them. Revelation 7:15

As these saints arrive at the throne of God they serve Him day and night and He dwells among them.  They seem to have a special place with Him reserved for those who become believers during the time of the antichrist when doing so almost guarantees you will be beheaded, killed.   The remaining verses of this chapter emphasize this point.

They shall hunger no more, neither thirst any more; neither shall the sun light on them, nor any heat. For the Lamb which is in the midst of the throne shall feed them, and shall lead them unto living fountains of waters: and God shall wipe away all tears from their eyes. Revelation 7:16-17

As always my beloved brothers and sisters in Christ may the Father bless, keep and strengthen you as you continue to:

Fight the good fight of faith, lay hold on eternal life, whereunto thou art also called, and hast professed a good profession before many witnesses. 1 Timothy 6:12

knowing that you can do all things through Christ which strengtheneth you. Philippians 4:13
