Watchman, What of the Night

I had to run to town today and I was listening to some Michael Combs on the way. Ok I was actually just belting them out with him shamelessly, and sopping and talking with my Father and my Savior about how I wanna go home, how I long for Glory Land, how I long for home. My soul aches for the day when the trump sounds and my King meets me in the air!

“For the Lord himself shall descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of the archangel, and with the trump of God: and the dead in Christ shall rise first: Then we which are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds, to meet the Lord in the air: and so shall we ever be with the Lord.”  (1 Thessalonians 4:16-17)

So when I was reading from Spurgeon just a bit ago the message spoke volumes to me. I want to share it with you my beloved brothers and sisters in Christ that your souls may be bolstered up as my own was as we anxiously await the day we will ever be with our Lord!

“Watchman, what of the night?” — Isa 21:11

What enemies are abroad? Errors are a numerous horde, and new ones appear every hour: against what heresy am I to be on my guard? Sins creep from their lurking places when the darkness reigns; I must myself mount the watch-tower, and watch unto prayer. Our heavenly Protector foresees all the attacks which are about to be made upon us, and when as yet the evil designed us is but in the desire of Satan, he prays for us that our faith fail not, when we are sifted as wheat. Continue O gracious Watchman, to forewarn us of our foes, and for Zion’s sake hold not thy peace.

“Watchman, what of the night?” What weather is coming for the Church? Are the clouds lowering, or is it all clear and fair overhead? We must care for the Church of God with anxious love; and now that Popery and infidelity are both threatening, let us observe the signs of the times and prepare for conflict.

“Watchman, what of the night?” What stars are visible? What precious promises suit our present case? You sound the alarm, give us the consolation also. Christ, the polestar, is ever fixed in his place, and all the stars are secure in the right hand of their Lord.

But watchman, when comes the morning? The Bridegroom tarries. Are there no signs of his coming forth as the Sun of Righteousness? Has not the morning star arisen as the pledge of day? When will the day dawn, and the shadows flee away? O Jesus, if thou come not in person to thy waiting Church this day, yet come in Spirit to my sighing heart, and make it sing for joy.

“Now all the earth is bright and glad

With the fresh morn;

But all my heart is cold, and dark and sad:

Sun of the soul, let me behold thy dawn!

Come, Jesus, Lord,

O quickly come, according to thy word.”

— Spurgeon

JESUS CHRIST TRIUMPHANT

Wow, I’ve read Isaiah a lot, I spend much time in the prophets in general and of course that includes Isaiah.  Granted he’s not my favorite to read, that’d be good old ‘Zeke; one day in the Kingdom I’m gonna have a talk with Ezekiel about those wheels, those things freak me out.  Sorry I digress, back to Isaiah.

So this evening I was reading my devotional from Our Daily Walk by F. B. Myer and it was the most beautiful selection around a passage from Isaiah I had never really noticed before.

Who is this that cometh from Edom, with dyed garments from Bozrah? this that is glorious in his apparel, travelling in the greatness of his strength? I that speak in righteousness, mighty to save. Isaiah 63:1

I’ve read chapter 63 a dozen times it seems but never had I really realized how striking this prophetic vision of Isaiah’s is.  It is our returning Redeemer coming in glory!  It is our come King laying claim to his Kingdom, not our suffering Messiah for he has already come and died for us before rising from the grave in victory conquering death.  He then went to sit at the Father’s right hand and prepare a place for us his church until the day that God sends Him back, the day Isaiah saw.  This world’s redo, a new beginning of perfect peace under the perfect Prince of Peace.  I long for this kingdom, I pray for it and my heart aches for the peace only Jesus can bring this world.

Psalm 2

Notice my heart aches for the world’s peace not my own for I already have it, I have perfect peace in the only one who can keep me in it.

Thou wilt keep him in perfect peace, whose mind is stayed on thee: because he trusteth in thee. Isaiah 26:3

I keep my trust in Him and my mind stayed on Him.  I don’t have any trouble with the trust part, I figure the Creator and keeper of my soul is  better able to handle keeping me than I am.  After all when I was the one trying to do it all on my own all I managed to do was make it one hot jacked up crazy kinda mess.  But Jesus He  fixed it, he straightened out my tangled mess and gave me a new life in Him.  He saved more than just my soul, He saved my life.  I owe everything to Him and I live my life to serve Him by telling others about my glorious, precious Savior.  My Savior who washed me from sin in His royal, righteous blood shed on Calvary.

“What can was away my sins, what can make me whole again?  Nothing but the blood of Jesus.”

Truer words have never been sung for it is only by His shed blood that broken wasted lives are washed free from the bondage of sin, redeemed in His majestic grace and made new to live life of peace, hope and freedom secure in the everlasting arms of the King of Kings, my sweet Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.

Now I sometimes have to work at keeping my mind stayed on Him, my heart is willing but this old flesh it’s weak.  One days when I am tempted, distracted, find myself being drawn away from not nearer to my Lord I have to refocus.  I have some verses memorized that help me, ones that speak of my Savior and all He has done for me.  I think of where He has brought me from and I know that He is taking to a glorious future more spectacular than I can possibly imagine and thus my mind is drawn back to my Savior….

Jesus Christ who is going to return to this earth, jacked up mess that it is, and he’s gonna fix it just like He fixed me.  That curse all humanity and all creation has groaned under since Adam sinned against God and death entered the world will be broken and for 1000 incredible, peace filled, glorious, perfect years Christ will reign here on this earth.

8105902919_fb7a3c35e8_z

Of course He has to take it back first and that moment when He has returned to do so in all the splendor and glory of His triumphant return to restore all to rights. is what Isaiah saw.  He saw my King, my Savior, my Conquer!  Praise God, he saw my King and one day I will too in more than just my heart.

Folks that day is fast approaching, faster than you think.  If that glorious soldier King returning to save this world Isaiah saw isn’t already the King of your heart, your life won’t you make Him so today.  For if you read the following passages of Isaiah 63 you will see that it doesn’t work out so well for those who are not servants of the rightful King, don’t wait until it’s too late to choose life, hope, love, peace – to choose to follow Jesus, the Everlasting glorious King of kings!

Below I am posting the devotional I read for your further contemplation and study, I pray it will touch your hearts as it did mine.

“Who is this that cometh from Edom…glorious in His apparel, travelling in the greatness of His strength? I that speak in righteousness, mighty to save.” — Isa_63:1.
WE CAN never speak of our Lord as we would! We select the richest metaphors of Scripture, the ideals of poets, the masterpieces of the rarest art; but none of them suffice. We steep our thought with fragments from the diaries and autobiographies of the saints. We meditate on His words till our hearts begin to burn! But we come back to the light of common days, and the summons of daily tasks, knowing that we have Him, but what He is neither tongue can tell nor heart conceive. We await, therefore, with some impatience, till the veil will part asunder and we shall see Him as He is.
The wistful yearning after Christ, which has characterised every age, has broken out again and again in transcendent expression, but among all the imaginings of sanctified and glowing souls, it is hard to find one more suggestive and inspiring than this pre-vision of Isaiah. He is standing on the foothills of the Judean table-land, looking due south toward Edom, when he is startled by an unexpected and extraordinary spectacle. A mighty Conqueror is descried in the distance, of commanding appearance traversing slowly and majestically the desert-wastes, His back toward Edom, His face toward the Judean frontier. He is clearly alone. Whether He had led an army, or had completed His work without an army, is not immediately apparent; but He approaches, travelling in the greatness of His strength. It is only natural that the astonished seer should challenge Him with the cry: “Who is this that cometh from Edom?” Across the intervening space the answer comes: “I that speak in righteousness, mighty to save!”
Clearly, then, He is no enemy, but an Ally, and much more! The word save suggests that there is no reason for fear, but every reason to hope. Notice the special aspect of Jesus Christ which appears in this scene. It is not Jesus on the Cross, but in His Resurrection and Ascension glory. He it is who stands Sentry between us and the power of the flesh, for which Edom stands. He is not simply the Forgiver of Sin, but the Conqueror over all Sin. He is more than a Conqueror for Himself—He is responsible for all who trust Him.

PRAYER
O Lord Jesus Christ, Thou Captain of Salvation, who discernest the malevolence and working of evil spirits against my soul, deliver me, I entreat Thee, amid the manifold temptations and trials by which I am beset, make a way for me to escape, succour me by Thy mighty power, and cause me to become more than a conqueror. AMEN.

I was working on a post last night when I paused to pray for guidance on how best to bring God honor and glory through it, guess he thought it was best if I didn’t finish it at all because I fell asleep talking to him and when I woke up a couple hours later it was deleted. It has been one of those weeks where I am relying solely upon Him to get me through it. Between my husband’s health concerns and my son’s teenage drama I’ve spent a lot of time in prayer and seeking God’s will and guidance. There are some verses I have really drawn comfort from and I wanted to share them with you in hopes some of them will encourage you and strengthen your walk with the Lord.

“All the paths of the LORD are mercy and truth unto such as keep his covenant and his testimonies.”  (Psalms 25:10, KJV)

“Hear me when I call, O God of my righteousness: thou hast enlarged me when I was in distress; have mercy upon me, and hear my prayer. O ye sons of men, how long will ye turn my glory into shame? how long will ye love vanity, and seek after leasing? Selah. But know that the LORD hath set apart him that is godly for himself: the LORD will hear when I call unto him. Stand in awe, and sin not: commune with your own heart upon your bed, and be still. Selah. Offer the sacrifices of righteousness, and put your trust in the LORD. There be many that say, Who will shew us any good? LORD, lift thou up the light of thy countenance upon us. Thou hast put gladness in my heart, more than in the time that their corn and their wine increased. I will both lay me down in peace, and sleep: for thou, LORD, only makest me dwell in safety.”  (Psalms 4:1-8, KJV)

“Our soul waiteth for the LORD: he is our help and our shield.”  (Psalms 33:20, KJV)

“Behold, God is my salvation; I will trust, and not be afraid: for the LORD JEHOVAH is my strength and my song; he also is become my salvation.”  (Isaiah 12:2, KJV)

“And Jesus looking upon them saith, With men it is impossible, but not with God: for with God all things are possible.”  (Mark 10:27, KJV)

“And he said, Abba, Father, all things are possible unto thee; take away this cup from me: nevertheless not what I will, but what thou wilt.”  (Mark 14:36, KJV)

“In him was life; and the life was the light of men.”  (John 1:4, KJV)

“That whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have eternal life.”  (John 3:15, KJV)

“Search the scriptures; for in them ye think ye have eternal life: and they are they which testify of me.”  (John 5:39, KJV)

“Jesus said unto her, I am the resurrection, and the life: he that believeth in me, though he were dead, yet shall he live: And whosoever liveth and believeth in me shall never die. Believest thou this?”  (John 11:25-26, KJV)

As always my beloved brothers and sisters in Christ may the Father bless and keep you.

The 2,000 Year Colon

I wanted to publish this post this morning but it just didn’t happen. I couldn’t seem to get my words to come out right, it just seemed sloppy. It was like God was saying You need to marinate in it yourself a little longer. So I did all day and evening. So many things strike me about the passage and I wanna talk about all of them- I have actually all day but it was like I was missing the point God was trying to get across. Then it hit me when my husband came home. He’d borrowed one of my favorite movies from the church library- Fireproof. It amazes me how God works, he used a movie to make it all click for me.

Isaiah 9:6-7 is such a wonderful portrait of my Savior- from his cradle when a child was born all the way to his glorious return as the triumphant king upon the throne of David. He came as an innocent helpless baby to live as a man among us, a perfect sinless man but still a man and eventually shed his precious blood as the sacrifice for our sins so that we can be made right with God the father. But his death was just the beginning, when he said it is finished on the cross he meant sin and the consequences of it. Death. Cause three days later he came out of that dark tomb, that bitter grave alive! He’s alive and because of that fact we know that one day even after this body dies we will be too. See one day, possibly very soon, God’s going to say to Jesus who is sitting at his right hand right now, go get them, bring your bride home son. And in that moment at the last trumpet the dead in Christ will rise bodily to meet their souls in the air, and those who remain alive at this point will be changed and rise along side the dead all of us sporting glorified bodies and we’ll meet our Lord in the air. And so shall we ever be with the Lord. That’s the harpazo, the rapture of the saints, the claiming of the bride, Christ’s body being called up. It is also the start of the end of Israel’s time out during the church age. God’s gonna be dealing with them while we are with our Savior and king. And when God sends our king to fight for God’s chosen people all who were raptured will be the army coming with him! All because God loves the world so much he sent a child, Emmanuel, God with us, His Son.

So far that’s where the story is paused at, the colon following the word given. Two little dots that stand for about a thousand years each. For two thousand years Jesus has been in heaven once again, seated at the Fathers right hand where he is making intercession for us. Well those of us who belong to him anyway, those who have put their faith and trust Jesus – the child son of God who is wholly God yet wholly man. He’s building his eternal kingdom his bride right now of those who cry out to him, who cling to his cross, washed clean from sin by his atoning blood. Waiting for the colon to end. Which is where I’ll pick up next time.

As always my beloved brothers and sisters in Christ may the father bless and keep you.

The Three C’s of Jesus

“For unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given: and the government shall be upon his shoulder: and his name shall be called Wonderful, Counsellor, The mighty God, The everlasting Father, The Prince of Peace. Of the increase of his government and peace there shall be no end, upon the throne of David, and upon his kingdom, to order it, and to establish it with judgment and with justice from henceforth even for ever. The zeal of the LORD of hosts will perform this.”  Isa 9:6-7

Before I go further with this post I just want you to read these two verses from Isaiah – read them, ponder them, dwell on them, marinate in them overnight. These is one of my favorite passages of scripture and tomorrow I am gonna do a short study on them but for now let them soak in and really earnestly think of how breathtakingly glorious they are. They lay it all out, from beginning to end, and that should make our souls sing with joy. So let these verses stew in your heart and soul tonight then join me tomorrow for a teaching. As always my beloved brothers and sisters in Christ may the Father bless and keep you.

King of Kings, Wrapped In Rags

Earlier I shared one of my favorite songs, Mary Did You Know, and asked you to listen to it and really think about what it’s saying.  Did Mary really know that that sweet, precious baby was God come to earth!  Did she get it, realize what was to come?

Did she know that that cooing, squirming innocent one was the Innocent one who could take our sins, her sins?  That He would one day be mocked, tortured, beaten then mercilessly hung from the cross, crucified, to pay a debt He didn’t owe.  As she heard his first whimpers and cries did she know that one day He would cry out to God His father to forgive those who nailed Him to that tree at Calgary, by the way He didn’t just mean  the Romans or the Jews, He meant me and you too.  Or did she look at the perfect gift from God and just feel the love all mama’s feel for their perfect little ones?  Did she hold Him close, breathe that sweet pure baby smell, nurse her child, rocking him gently as she pondered all that being the mom to the Son of God meant, all that her child, her sleeping bundle of joy would do in His 33 years?

luke-2-19.jpg

God has really laid this on my heart this Christmas, that Mary was just a young mom, with an awesome responsibility – to birth and raise God’s son!  Maybe it’s because this year my own son gave His life to the Lord and is quickly moving from a child to a preteen and I am remembering my sweet baby bird, who’s now as tall as me!  But Luke 2:19 speaks to me, it tickles the back of my mind and my heart, almost makes me weep for sweet Mary.  That young mother so wonderfully happy, beautifully exhausted, lovingly terrified, who has just given birth to God’s own son in a lowly stable because she and her espoused husband Joseph were poor and in a town not even their own, at the end of a long and wearisome journey to be taxed and counted in Bethlehem.  They arrive with Mary ready to deliver the Mighty God upon whose shoulders the government shall one day rest and they can’t even find a proper bed for her to labor in.  No one would open their doors or their hearts to this poor young family, for the coming king!  So they did what they had too, I imagine her time was drawing nigh and Joseph was desperate to find a warm, dry place to give his beloved a place to give birth and somewhere the tender new babe would be safe and secure.  All he could find was a stable, it would have to do.  Her son whom God had entrusted to her out of all the women on earth and she gave birth to him with the cattle.  Then she wrapped the perfect, precious babe in swaddling clothes, that’s a nice way of saying rags ya know.  That’s right the King of Kings, Prince of Peace, Wonderful Counselor, Savior of the world was born in a barn, wrapped in rags and slept in a manger.

crown-rags-manger

Not exactly the entrance into this world you would think of for the most memorable, amazing, revolutionary, radical person to ever live.  Yet, it’s perfect, after all Jesus was a radical teaching things like the first would be last and the last first.  He was a revolutionary talking of a kingdom no eye has seen where He is going soon to prepare a place for us.  A stable, rags and a manger somehow it was just right.  God’s funny that way, he works wonders in the humblest ways.  I mean when I really think of it, if they had been in an inn it sure would have been harder for the shepherd’s to reach them, all tucked away in a crowded building with people everywhere.  People and noise and chaos – not exactly a peaceful place to deliver a child.  On the contrary the stale was quiet, the animals all gathered round, curious yet gentle as the new family shares it’s first moments together.  Gentle moos, baas, and brays were the accompaniment to Mary and Joseph’s first tender, loving lullabies that our new born Savior heard.  Sweet smelling hay was a warm snug bed once the wee one had fed and was sleeping soundly, wrapped in those rags.  Rags that were worn soft with age and use but clean, easy to wrap around the tiny arms and legs, against new baby soft skin, and warm.  That night those rags were fit for a King.  The scene was perfectly set for the new family to catch their breathes, maybe a little rest, and just bask in those first precious moments with their son, God’s Son.

nativity-scene-mary-joseph-baby-jesus

Moments that were short, fleeting because even as they are tasting love, trust and hope outside town God’s own heavenly host is spreading the good news to some visitors to come welcome His boy to the world.

And there were in the same country shepherds abiding in the field, keeping watch over their flock by night.  And, lo, the angel of the Lord came upon them, and the glory of the Lord shone round about them: and they were sore afraid.  And the angel said unto them, Fear not: for, behold, I bring you good tidings of great joy, which shall be to all people.  For unto you is born this day in the city of David a Savior, which is Christ the Lord.  And this shall be a sign unto you; Ye shall find the babe wrapped in swaddling clothes, lying in a manger.  (Luke 2:8-12)

See the perfect place, God always has a plan.

And suddenly there was with the angel a multitude of the heavenly host praising God, and saying, Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace, good will toward men.  (Luke 2:13-14)

Can you just picture the sight, a multitude of the heavenly host, praising God, proclaiming His glory, announcing His Son.

And it came to pass, as the angels were gone away from them into heaven, the shepherds said one to another, Let us now go even unto Bethlehem, and see this thing which is come to pass, which the Lord hath made known unto us. And they came with haste, and found Mary, and Joseph, and the babe lying in a manger.  (Luke 2:15-16)

They came with haste, quickly, sparing no time, rushing, excitedly.  They had just been visited by God’s own angels and told that they need to go meet His own Son, I bet they came on the run alright.

And when they had seen it, they made known abroad the saying which was told them concerning this child.  And all they that heard it wondered at those things which were told them by the shepherds.  (Luke 2:17-18)

Those simple shepherds were the first preachers, they were the first to share the good news, the Son of God, Prince of Peace, Savior of the world.  Whom they just saw in lying wrapped in rags.  The King of Kings, wrapped in rags, come to this sin cursed earth to be crucified on a tree for the sins of the world, laid to rest in a tomb in a garden to rise up resurrected on the third day offering the world eternal life through faith in Him.  The same God that rose Him from the grave created us, loves us, wants to be in fellowship with us.  But ever since that fateful day in the garden of Eden when Adam sinned and brought death into the world, we’ve been separated from God, our sin, rebellion, keeping us apart from our Creator, our Father.  It broke His heart that there was a veil keeping us from drawing near one to the other in closeness, fellowship, relationship.  So He fixed things, made them new, right.

John 3&16 nativity.jpg

God the Father sent his Son so you don’t have to die.  You too can have the gift, the grace, the mercy, the hope, the joy, the peace of eternal life.  Simply believe.  Believe in that sweet baby.  Born in the lowly stable, born in poverty, not even a proper bed.  But born with a mighty purpose, a mission to fulfill.  Born with angels from heaven proclaiming the good news, literally shouting with praise and glory!  Born to obey his Father even unto death, conquering death, defeating death – giving life!  Offering every soul on earth mercy, grace, rebirth through repentance of sin and faith in Christ.  Be born again this Christmas in that manager beside the King!

GOD’S CHALLENGE TO MAN

This stirred my heart, I relate well to Isaiah in this devotional from Our Daily Walk by F.B. Meyer.

“I heard the voice of the Lord. saying, Whom shall I send, and who will go for us? Then said I, Here am I; send me.” — Isaiah 6:8.

FROM THE midst of Heaven there comes to our earth this cry for help, an appeal from the Eternal Trinity: “Who will go for us!” It reminds us of the last commission of our Lord to His disciples, that they should go into all the world, and preach His Gospel to every creature. The Seraphim may minister to those who have become the heirs of salvation, but only those who have been redeemed from among men have the high privilege of being called to the supreme work of redemption.

Notice the preparation for responding to that appeal. The vision of the Eternal: “I saw the Lord sitting upon a throne.” Suddenly the material temple, in which Isaiah was probably worshipping, gave place to the eternal, the altar and the laver to the Throne of God; the cloud of incense, to the skirts of glory that filled the air; the choir of Levites, to the bands of the Seraphim that engirdled the sapphire throne. And above all, he beheld the glory of Christ (John 12:41).

This led to the vision of his own heart: “Woe is me, for I am undone.” It is when a man reaches the snowline that he realizes the comparative impurity of the whitest white that earth can produce. Probably there was no one in all Jerusalem who lived nearer to God than Isaiah, but when he learned that, in the estimation of the Seraphim, God was thrice holy; when he saw them veil their faces in adoration; when he discovered that the whole universe was filled with God, then he remembered the hidden evil of his own heart, and cried out “I am unclean!” Not a moment intervened between his confession and the cleansing of his iniquity, and he was able to say: “Send me.”

Have you heard that cry for help from the heart of Christ? Are you seeking to enter into His yearning love for the souls of men? He says to each one of us: “Could ye not watch with Me one hour?” Give yourself to Him that you may be used in His service: “Here am I, send me, use me.”

PRAYER
Lord, grant us ears to hear, eyes to see, wills to obey, hearts to love; then declare what Thou wilt, reveal what Thou wilt, command what Thou wilt, demand what Thou wilt. AMEN.

Perfect Peace

** Previously scheduled repost.

Perfect peace, what a lovely promise, what a sweet reward for trusting in our Father.   Those words have echoed in my heart when I face challenges because I know they are true, He does keep me in perfect peace when I trust Him fully, even when I am dealing with difficulties He never leaves me, I am filled with the Holy Spirit and with the calm assurance that it is all in His hands, that I am in His hands, in His love.  That my fellow believers is perfect peace!

Thou wilt keep him in perfect peace, whose mind is stayed on thee: because he trusteth in thee.  Isaiah 26:3

The LORD will give strength unto his people; the LORD will bless his people with peace.  Psalms 29:11

Peace I leave with you, my peace I give unto you: not as the world giveth, give I unto you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid.  John 14:27

These things I have spoken unto you, that in me ye might have peace. In the world ye shall have tribulation: but be of good cheer; I have overcome the world.  John 16:33

Therefore being justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ:  Romans 5:1

Now the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace in believing, that ye may abound in hope, through the power of the Holy Ghost.  Romans 15:13

Finally, brethren, farewell. Be perfect, be of good comfort, be of one mind, live in peace; and the God of love and peace shall be with you.  2 Corinthians 13:11

As always brothers and sisters in Christ may God, the Father, bless and keep you!

Isaiah Encouraging All to Wait on the Lord

This devotional reading from Day By Day By Grace by Bob Hoekstra really spoke to me today, reminding me that I wait for Him.

Those who wait on the LORD shall renew their strength . . . And I will wait on the LORD, Who hides His face from the house of Jacob; and I will hope in Him . . . And it will be said in that day: “Behold, this is our God; we have waited for Him, and He will save us. This is the LORD; we have waited for Him; we will be glad and rejoice in His salvation.” (Isaiah 40:31; 8:17; and_25:9)

Isaiah’s desire to live by grace was evident in his proclaiming that God’s power was available for those who would admit their own weakness. Now, we see Isaiah’s heart for God’s grace in his encouraging all to wait on the Lord.
One of Isaiah’s encouragements to wait on the Lord came in conjunction with God’s promises to give power to the weak. “He gives power to the weak, and to those who have no might He increases strength . . . They shall mount up with wings like eagles, they shall run and not be weary, they shall walk and not faint” (Isaiah 40:29 & 40:31). This gracious work of God in people’s lives hinged upon their waiting on the Lord. “Those who wait on the LORD shall renew their strength.
Another of Isaiah’s encouragements to wait on the Lord occurred in a time when Israel was rebelling against God. “For the LORD spoke thus to me with a strong hand, and instructed me that I should not walk in the way of this people” (Isaiah 8:11). The Lord strongly urged Isaiah to stand against Israel’s rebellion, even though they were threatening the prophet. “Do not . . . be afraid of their threats, nor be troubled. The LORD of hosts, Him you shall hallow; Let Him be your fear” (Isaiah 8:12-13). Isaiah’s encouraging testimony revealed that his heart was fully set on the Lord. “And I will wait on the LORD, Who hides His face from the house of Jacob; and I will hope in Him.” God was not revealing Himself to rebellious Israel. On the other, Isaiah would “wait on the LORD” (that is, he would “hope in Him”).
Isaiah’s ultimate encouragement to wait on the Lord is related to God’s establishing of His everlasting kingdom. “And it will be said in that day: ‘Behold, this is our God; we have waited for Him, and He will save us. This is the LORD; we have waited for Him; we will be glad and rejoice in His salvation’.” Those who place their hope in the Lord during their pilgrimage on earth will eventually rejoice forever when the Lord eternally implements the fullness of his salvation for His people!

Dear Lord, I am aware of my utter weakness, so I wait on You for Your strength and stamina. At times, I am intimidated by rebellious people, so I wait on You for protection and vindication. I have experienced so many earthly heartbreaks, so I wait on You for the joy and gladness of Your everlasting kingdom.

As always my beloved brothers and sisters in Christ may the Father bless, keep and strengthen you as you continue to:

Fight the good fight of faith, lay hold on eternal life, whereunto thou art also called, and hast professed a good profession before many witnesses. 1 Timothy 6:12
